The 2nd Annual Midwestern Invitational was held this year at the Bowlero Lanes in Romeoville Illinois and hosted 17 bowlers making the trip and participating in this annual event. It was a pleasure to welcome for the first time 3 new tournament bowlers; Carl La Grotteria of New Jersey, Chuck Scott, and Daniel James, both from Illinois. Thursday kicked off our Doubles competition, and congratulations to David Nelson Jr. of Nebraska and Eddy Hutchens of Colorado who bested the field of teams in this 3-game match play.

Friday morning after registration we had a brief opening ceremony and began our 1st and 2nd set of singles. This year we included a Friday evening Up/Down community fundraiser event and had nothing but great responses by those who attend as well as those who watch and participated in the raffles. Team Andy Bernt took away 1st place followed closely behind by Team Dave Nelson. It was great fun had by all. Before Saturday’s singles play, we were privileged once again to have USBC Hall of Fame and PBA Champion Carmen Salvino to come out to visit with us, give great bowling tips and to sign autographs and take pictures. Great bowler and true ambassador for the sport of bowling.

Sunday was set 5, with a stair step roll off of all divisions Sunday afternoon. In the Scratch Div. second seed David Nelson Jr. took the title by defeating top seed Eddy Hutchens (202 to 196). In the “A” Division the 5th seed Andy Bernt battled his way to the title match but fell short to top seed Gary Poole who took home the “A” Title (202 to 200-handicap). In a very close match in the “B” Div. top seed Jimmy May was defeated by the #2 seed Dan James who took home 1st place in his very first tournament! Congratulations to all of the winners, and great bowling to everyone who participated.

To all the Sponsors, supporters and volunteers that help make this event a success, thank you!!! We greatly appreciate the PVA, Storm Bowling, ABC Medical, The Chicagoland USBC, Logo Infusion, Bowlero Lanes Management and Staff, and the many local donors. A special thanks to Tom Menz and JF Pro shop in New Lenox who came out each day to the tournament with jerseys, bowling balls, food, raffle gifts and just a whole lot of love for the Midwestern Bowlers. All of you guys were TREMENDOUS!

And a heartfelt special thanks to the members of the AWBA who supported this 2nd Annual Midwestern event with your presence. We are looking forward to years of fun, great bowling, and developing new friends. See You On The Lanes!
