SHAWN BEAM BOWLS AWBA FIRST SANCTIONED 300
Perfection is something we all try to achieve in all we do. Certainly in the sport of bowling, wheelchair or not, perfection is defined as a score of 300. Twelve consecutive strikes, the last one or two with everyone watching and hoping for that perfect game.
Well, on Friday night, May 18, 2012 in Ft. Worth, Texas, at Cityview Lanes, one of the AWBA’s newest members and a scratch bowler, did what many have tried to accomplish but few have, THE PERFECT GAME and the first to be bowled by an individual in a wheelchair in a sanctioned event. Shawn Beam, a young man that has been bowling in a wheelchair for 15 years, released his twelfth (12) ball and like he had dreamed of for many years, all 10 pins fell for The Perfect “300”!! “With all the great bowlers I have seen in the AWBA, I would have thought someone would have done it before. I am honored and humbled to be the first to achieve it” said Shawn after his milestone achievement.
News of such an accomplishment travels fast as the USBC learned of his achievement Friday night not long after Shawn bowled the “300”. Some form of story will be done by the USBC in the coming weeks. Joe Fox, Sr., Chairperson of the AWBA, extended his congratulations to Shawn as well and thanked him for his commitment to perfection and the sport of wheelchair bowling.
Shawn will be competing in the AWBA Nationals in Milwaukee in June. “I look forward to seeing all my new friends with the AWBA at Nationals next month” Shawn said.
Congratulations Shawn from all the members of the AWBA. We are happy to have you as a member. Now you will be known as “MR. 300”!!!!!!!!!
